Black Girlhood Memory Project

A multi-phase project dedicated to the preservation, amplification, and education of Black girl pasts, presents, and futures.

Step 1: Project Launch (Spring - Summer 2025)

Goal: Establish the foundation of the project through Black girlhood archivism, education, and community engagement.

🤍 Internal & External Black Girlhood Archivism

  • Train Black girls in archivism, museum curation, and history documentation.

  • Conduct oral history interviews and collect materials.

  • Teach workshops on Black girlhood studies and memory work.

🤍 Building the Black Girlhood Archive (Digital + Physical)

  • Develop a digital archive to store collected narratives, photos, and artifacts.

  • Begin groundwork for a physical Black Girlhood Archive.

🤍 Community Engagement & Story Collection

  • Encourage Black girls and women to submit personal stories.

  • Host oral history nights, writing workshops, and archiving sessions.

Step 3: Pop-Up Exhibitions & Interactive Installations (Winter 2026 - Summer 2026)

Goal: Bring Black girlhood history to life through immersive storytelling.

🤍 Traveling Exhibit Series

  • Design immersive pop-up exhibitions showcasing:

    • Black girlhood activism, education, beauty, fashion, literature, play, etc.

    • Interactive installations, digital media, oral history stations, and sensory storytelling.

    • Exhibits hosted at schools, libraries, community centers, museums.

🤍 Virtual Exhibit & Digital Presence

  • Create an interactive digital version of the pop-up exhibits.

  • Incorporate video interviews, digitized artifacts, and oral history recordings.

🤍 Collaborative Special Projects

  • Commission artistic projects like murals, photography, and short films.

  • Host story-sharing events featuring Black girls and women discussing personal and historical narratives.

Stage 5: The Black Girlhood Memory Museum (Capital Campaign ~ Fall 2026)

Goal: Establish a permanent home for Black girlhood history, storytelling, and education.

  • Establish a physical space dedicated to Black girlhood history.

  • Feature permanent and rotating exhibits covering:

    • Key historical figures.

    • Community storytelling.

    • Black girl aesthetics, activism, and cultural movements.

🤍 Experiential & Educational Programming

  • Workshops & Youth Programming: Teach Black girls archivism, curation, and history.

  • Research Center: A hub for Black Girlhood Studies scholars and historical work.

🤍 Annual Black Girlhood Conference

  • Bring together historians, artists, educators, and cultural leaders.

  • Discuss the impact, legacy, and future of Black girlhood.






Step 2: Partnerships & Collaboration (Fall 2025 - Winter 2026)

Goal: Expand Black girlhood archivism by working with outside organizations, institutions, and brands.

🤍 Archivism & Institutional Collaborations

  • Partner with museums, universities, libraries, and historical orgs.

  • Work with Black women historians, artists, and educators to contribute to the archive.

🤍 Corporate & Brand Collaborations

  • Develop corporate partnerships to fund initiatives and amplify impact.

  • Work with cultural brands (ex: film studios, publishers, fashion designers) to support Black girlhood storytelling.

🤍 Mini Projects & Public Engagement

  • Black Girlhood Archives x (Partner Name): Custom initiatives with partner organizations.

  • Special projects like Black Girlhood book clubs, film screenings, and artist-led storytelling.

Stage 4: Textbook & Curriculum Development (Spring - Summer 2026)

Goal: Establish a lasting educational resource on Black girlhood.

🤍 Black Girlhood Textbook

  • Develop a comprehensive textbook chronicling Black girlhood in the U.S. and globally.

  • Include oral histories, archival research, and contemporary Black girl narratives.

  • Ensure alignment with school curricula, libraries, and educators.

🤍 Curriculum & Teaching Materials

  • Create lesson plans for classrooms, homeschoolers, and independent learners.

  • Provide teacher training programs and workshops on Black girlhood studies.

🤍 Expanding Public Access to the Archive

  • Make Black Girlhood history accessible through:

    • Digital resources.

    • Print & digital educational guides.

    • Online storytelling and virtual exhibits.
